Avate Legionary!  Welcome to the Ninth Legion - the showcase  for my ancient gaming and miniatures collection.

I’ve owned an Ancient German army for a number of years and always hankered after a force of non-late Romans - but what kind - Imperial, or Republican?  I couldn’t decide.  So, as I was planning on a relatively small army I went for both!

One feature of this Roman Army project is that I don’t intend to buy anything at list price; the figures will be metal: Foundry and Warlord Games.  To date I’ve stuck to my principles and have successfully shopped around for discount deals.

My current idea is to pit  Ancient Germans against the Republicans (on square bases for WAB) and the Celts against the Early Imperial Romans (on round bases for skirmish rules).  I have to admit that the Early Imperial Romans are presently my favourites.

Notwithstanding  work commitments things should bob along quite nicely - it doesn’t take too long to paint ancient figures.
